Happy Imbolc/Candlemas Day everyone!
Well technically, Imbolc was January 1st at sunset this year. You see the sun entered 15 degrees in Aquarius on the first of February. So based on the Celtic tradition, the day before that at sunset, is Imbolc. So I began celebrating it with a ritual lighting of seven candles in Brighid’s honor. I had created this year’s Brídeog the same day.
And asked the spirit of Brighid to enter the doll and possess it. I ritually invited her to enter my home. And from there we did a bunch of rituals together with Oya and the Virgin of Candelaria (Candlemas). Lots of necromancy. As well as faerie magic with the Tuatha Dé Danann.

(This one is kind of biased because it doesn’t mention that the “christian” tradition actually comes from the Celtic Pagan feast of Imbolc, dedicated to Brighid).

Many people don’t know this. But Florida has it’s own tradition of predicting when spring or winter will come. But we don’t use a groundhog obviously. We use a mollusk who lives in a conch shell. And when he/she sees their shadow, that tells you what happens.
Well for the first time in a long time, the conch mollusk disagreed with Punxsutawney Phil. Phil claimed an early spring will arise. But our shell mollusk claims we will have six more weeks of winter. Now it should be noted this is a form of animal divination. And it doesn’t always mean a literal interpretation of the weather.
It also means the “spiritual weather”. What this means is, it’s based on the atmospheric conditions of the spirit world. Why would we care about the weather in the spirit world? Because it tells us what will happen in our world. Conflicts, poverty, success, blessing, etc.. Phil predicting an early spring means the return of light to the land.

Our weather Diviner in Marathon, Florida is named the Mollusk Meteorologist.
“But M! These things aren’t meant to be taken seriously! These are just fun traditions,”
The fuck they are. Many of these folk traditions are similar or identical to older traditions in the Pagan past. People don’t realize that the bald Eagle in the flag, is an animal totem. That Mount Rushmore before it was desecrated by the US Government with the faces of Presidents, was a sacred Native site. So yes these animal traditions are divinatory in nature.
So I guess it matters where the “light” or blessings are going to. Meanwhile in Florida it’s clear that more darkness is headed this year. Which doesn’t surprise me given the current state of our state. Or it could mean a combination of both. Though the light could be really intense.
Remember that protests and fighting for human rights could be intense. And seem like dark days. When in reality they are just birth pains of a better era on the rise. I used a different kind of candle so I didn’t have the cerromancy divination this year. But enough of that. Enjoy this year’s random links.
