The first New Moon of January 2021 will be this Wednesday in the sign of Capricorn ♑. New Moons are good for recharging spells and bindings. And for destroying unwanted and negative energies. Hell it’s even good for both curses and breaking curses. For exorcisms and even for dark spirits.
New Moons have a fascinating duality to them. They seem be used for almost anything. The wild spirits are free on this night. And the dead also. New Moons naturally belong to the dead, so this is a time for honoring one’s ancestors.
A bunch of different feasts align on this day. Including the birthday of Dr. John Dee! The Great Magus and Founder of Enochian Magic. So this is truly a day to do magic. And Dr. John Dee was also an Astrologer. So this is a perfect time to ask the great sage for aid in your astrological work.
The astrologers use new moons to plant intentions for manifestation. Basically making wishes on the new moon which will grow and manifest at the full moon. In astrology, the dark or black moon is known as a “seed moon”. Planting the seeds to grow them like a farmer of dreams. However, this new moon is more for banishing than anything else.
Capricorn is an Earth sign. It’s used for practical things but also for relaxation. It is symbolized by the Sea Goat. This time of the year, it is used for severing and destroying negative connections. What people call cord cutting.
Or cut and clear rituals in Hoodoo. That it takes place on a Wednesday is even better. That’s a day ruled by the Messenger Gods and spirits. Which means this can increase the powers needed for clearing and karmic removal. In my case, I will be calling for Némein (Nemesis) as well as Fortuna to clear my karma.
Today Sunday was Pradosham. In which I did several karmic clearing rituals with Lord Shiva and his family. It seems that this week of the month is very good for such things. The Romans like the Indians, believed that new moons were a time of the dead and of dark spirits.
The Romans called the new moons the Nones of a month. In which no God would rule. Which means it was bad luck. But a long time ago, I learned more or less how to circumvent that. I pray to Némein and to the Roman Goddess Fortuna.
And I ask them both for karmic clearings of negative energy. And to reset my destiny so that I can be well blessed in life.
So take the time to meditate, give offerings. Do the required rituals to clear your destiny. In the mean time, here is some other news. Some good news for a change.
“A first look at the 2021 Flying Star chart however induces some optimism. As the center dominant star number is nowhere as hostile as the ruling Loss Star of 2020. The #6 Heaven Star in the center indicates blessings from heaven. And while this is usually read as a good thing, it pays never to forget that one can also incur the wrath of the Gods. The first thing we recommend to do as we near 2021 is to get heaven luck onto your side.
So that it is the benevolent energies of the skies that we acquire. All homes benefit from placing the Celestial Water Dragon in the center, or invite in an image of the 8 Heavenly Immortal,”
So that’s the good news. Though I might add that no matter the religion, any idols of your Gods will bring blessings. I would still try to get the Celestial Water Dragon however. But if not, find a way around it. Now as always, there is always a good and a bad to everything.
“The bogus 5 Yellow star flies to the Southeast this year, bringing danger to the eldest daughter and to those born in years of the Dragon and Snake. Homes that face Southeast or have their main doors located in the Southeast are afflicted. The Illness #2 star is located in the North and because it is strengthened by the Star of the Yin House. This means that if your bedroom or main door is located in the North, or if your house faces North. You must take active steps and place the appropriate remedies.
This star also afflicts the middle son, and those born in the year of the Rat,”
Also, and this is my personal touch. I would make an appeal to the Ox Spirit. To give proper offerings and incense for his blessing and protection. More often than not, people seem to not think about appeasing the angry or irritated entity. By giving these offerings, you’ll at least better your own odds.
I do believe that you should follow advice from the Chinese Astrologers. They are elders and know their religion and magic better than all of us. So with this information, do the best that you can. Finally, I want to share with you this amazing work on our holy lady Iset (Isis). This is perfect for the reaping that we are on in this year of 2021.
Although this was the last forecast of 2020, this covers a whole bunch of things. The other thing that catches my attention is that it comes on a Friday. Friday is usually for ending things. Not for starting new projects. This means this next year will more than likely be about finishing projects or taking care of problems that need to be taken care of.
Not about embarking on new projects. This is about fixing our lives and ending the nastiness of these last few years. If you already did that and think you can manage embarking on new projects, awesome. More power to you. The new year has come on the back of the Long Night’s Moon.
Also called the Full Cold Moon or simply the Cold Moon. The Moon of Midwinter which reaps and destroys negativity. This Moon influences our new year. So again, this year is for ending all of the bad from the last few years. Work with the moon on this.
It does so in the sign of Cancer. This sign belongs to the negative polarity. And it’s a water sign. So it magnifies cleansing. And it’s also a psychic-empathic sign.
A total cleansing of the soul. So this year is the time for reaping. Killing the dark things that no longer serve you. And planting and preparing for the things you want. For planting in order to harvest later, but before you can do that, you need to kill all the weeds.
Capricorn Horoscope for 2021
When I was praying to the Gods of the New Year, I had this heaviness hit me from the crown of my head. This was strange because I cleansed. I protected myself well. Followed all the rituals and then some. This new year comes with heavier baggage than the last one I think.
~ The Letter of the Year from Cuba ~
The Babalawos from Cuba have a different and more positive take. And in their divination we are going to be ruled by the Orishas (Yoruba Gods) Olokun and Oshun. Olokun is a very mysterious Deity. It’s unknown whether Olokun is male or female. All Gods and especially the Orishas are transexual entities.
They don’t really have a gender because Gods entail all things. Deities do normally have a set gender they like to use as their default. A preferred form they like to use amongst many. But Olokun is unknown. The story goes that this Orisha had taken human form once.
And was chased away by dogs to the bottom of a river. So Olokun never leaves the water and is hidden so deep within the caves and water ways that he/she is never seen. The main belief is that Olokun represents the mysteries of water. And Oshun is the Goddess of love, prosperity, nature, magic, and many other things. She also rules rivers.
Ika Fun is the sacred text or Odu (oddun) of the year. The main message is,
“A blessing of firm and safe health on Earth that Orula will provide”
Also, this year’s flag is blue with yellow trims. The colors of Olokun and Oshun.
– A sacrifice must be made to Obatala. One quail. Sixteen slices of bread. And Cacao, Cascarilla (egg shell powder), and two white candles.
– In addition to this, we are told to mop the floors of our houses with the Eight herbs of Obatala (This is a recommended house cleaning for the new year.)
– Another sacrifice must be made on behalf of Oshun and Olokun. The sacrifice is one rooster, one river stone, river water, bread crumbs, dirt from sixteen different places, clothing drenched in your own sweat, eight strips of (cloth) of different colors, and other ingredients.
Phrases of the year :
“He who laughs last, has the best laugh,”
“Sometimes what you don’t like is exactly what you have to do,”
~ Orixa Regente (Ruling Orixa) of 2021 ~
Orixa is the portugese spelling for Orisha. The Candomble religion is similar to Santeria. Only the slaves that went to Brazil preserved other Orishas that the slaves in Cuba didn’t. Their priests also perform a divination to see who rules the year. And in theirs it’s Oxum and Oxalá (Oshun and Obatala).
In both divinations we see Oshun take a prominent role. And even though Obatala isn’t the reigning Orisha in the Letter of the year, he’s still clearly important. Usually the divinations go in polar opposite points. Different Yoruba Deities and different messages. Which makes sense because each person divines for their own land.
And also because Candomble and Santeria have different traditions mixed with Yoruba religion. But this year it’s interesting to see just how close the divinations were.
“The ruling Orixás of 2021 are Oxum and Oxalá and, with them, the next year will benefit from protection, unity, learning and patience . Through this co-regency, you will feel the divine blessings of the two entities in different aspects of your life,”
“As the first day of the year falls on a Friday, 2021 will be ruled by Oxalá, known as the ‘father of the orixás’. However, he will not be alone in this command, as the ruling planet will be Venus, the planet that represents Oxum, called “mother of the orixás”. In addition, Oxum is represented by Odu (the numerological sum of 2021) with the number 5,”
“Therefore, the ruling Orixás of 2021 symbolize the role of mother and father of all human beings. In other words, the energy of family unity, the valorization of the sacred feminine , tranquility and harmony is expected. With Oxalá in charge, you will be blessed by his light and protection. With that, you will feel safe enough to develop personally, professionally and spiritually, as the Orixá brings wisdom and patience as virtues. On the other hand, Oxum indicates that the year will be driven by forces of prosperity, independence and balance.
In this way, the orixá will act on the self-esteem and confidence of people, especially women. Both Oxalá and Oxum as the 2021 regent Orixás carry the importance of maintaining a good family relationship as a principle. So don’t be surprised if you see that your friends are getting pregnant and raising their own families,”
“In Umbanda and Candomblé, Oxalá is the orixá that aligns the forces that connect people and nature, thus establishing harmony between all living beings. In this way, it brings, in addition to peace and quiet, the peace and calm required to end a cycle. This is because the ruling orixá of 2021 represents the end itself, that is, Oxalá defines the moment of the end of situations, periods and even lives. With the awareness that nothing is eternal, you can understand this orisha as the guardian of the balance of the Universe. Known as the ‘father of the orixás’.
He has two ‘identities’. As a young man, he receives the name of Oxaguiã and adopts paradoxical characteristics, because, while he is calm, he is also quarrelsome; already older, his name is Oxalufã and assumes a calm, patient and fair personality,“
What’s interesting here is that this part aligns with what I said in the beginning of the report. My divination with the spirits and Gods told me this year was to finish business. To reap or destroy the things we don’t need anymore. To end cycles. It seems that is what Oxala/Obatala will be doing this year.
“Oxum is the female orixá that governs feelings such as love and affection. Furthermore, it is she who maintains the natural order of the Universe, including fertility. For this reason, Oxum is symbolized as the ‘mother of the orixás’ and intercedes for all human beings as if they were their children. In Umbanda and Candomblé, the orixá is the daughter of Oxalá and her image is represented by her feminine strength and beauty. In this way, Oxum can be found in the calm of the fresh waters of rivers and waterfalls by those who seek to heal their wounds, especially those of love.
Therefore, the 2021 ruling orixá is frequently sought to resolve love issues. But Oxum is also known for bringing peace, stability and balance to distressed lives,”
“Oxalá and Oxum bring the importance of valuing both your spiritual and family side. Under the command of these two orixás, 2021 will be considered a period of closing cycles for the beginning of another, as it will be a year of personal and material growth, hard work and rewards,”
Oxalá and Oxum forecast as ruling orixás of 2021:
Spiritual peace ; Balance; Family union; Stable relationships ; Professional effort; Elimination of the superfluous; And open paths.
“In addition, with the strengths of Oxum and Oxalá, you can fulfill your dream of becoming a mother, as 2021 promises to be a very fertile year. Knowing the right moon to get pregnant, you guarantee the growth of your family, next year,”
“The last message about the influences of the ruling orixás of 2021 is that Oxalá and Oxum arrive to guide you to cut the bad by the roots. So, learn to listen to them, however difficult it may be, because, by eliminating bad energies, your life will take the right direction,”
And again, they seem to have caught onto the same energy that my spirits and I felt in the divination. Amazing. They also took a very positive stance for this year just as the Babalawos did.
Ruling Planet of the YearAstrologers from Brazil believe the ruling planet of the year is Venus. A planet love Goddesses such as Oshun rule. They believe this means that contrary to Chinese predictions, we will have peace and mutual respect. With a cool head for negotiations. Honestly, no one force rules it all.
Maybe we will have some positivity after all. But beware, I doubt we’ll have peace on Earth either. The Sun will enter Aries on March 21st of this year. Supposedly we’ll all be a lot more social and feel lightness. I’ll believe it when I see it though.
Venus favors rewards and many blessings. And again, it favors peaceful negotiations.
Strangely enough, when my Hellenic Temple and I celebrated the Athenian New Year just a few months ago, the Priests came to a similar conclusion. For my temple, the year belongs to Herakles and Aphrodite.
Herakles brings stability and strength just like Obatala and General Yang Xin. And Aphrodite is similar to Oshun in bringing love and unity. So it seems we are all tuning into the same frequency.
And finally, I finish this with a list of various New Year’s traditions
Remember the Great Conjunction is happening tonight. The first time since the Middle Ages. Christians view this as a Star of Redemption. For me this is a Star of reconciliation. Zeus and Kronos, Father and Son, United as one.
The former God king of the universe with the current God king. A new era about to be unleashed. The problem with new eras is that there are usually a lot of old conservative assholes who want things to stay as they are. That and old problems that resurface to be destroyed. So be excited but also be down to earth.
Hope for the best. But understand that this isn’t Harry Potter. A magical wand won’t solve all your problems. Only you can do that. So go outside under the conjunction and give offerings to the two Lords of Heaven.
Tonight is good for all white magic. And actually all dark magic as well. It’s a night of duality. Of sun and moon. And or reconciliation between hurt parties.
If these two can make up even for one astrological conjunction, then anyone can. Tonight is sacred to the Gods of light and dark. It is the Divalia, the Feast of Aset, the Rites of Soyal, the Korochun, and the Winter Solstice. And sacred to the Hopi Spider Woman and the Hawk Maiden. And who knows what other sacred feasts there are.
It’s also the first quarter moon. And some Wiccans choose this moon to honor Nemesis, the Hellenic Goddess of divine justice. This means, one can pray to the great Goddess to ask for a setting of the record. A righting of wrongs and balancing of the karmic scales. Now, for Wiccans, karma has a different connotation than Hindu karma.
But basically, a reset of your destiny and fortunes. Just remember, with lady Nemesis, you could be in for a bumpy ride. She was Zeus’ right hand in his ruling Olympian regime. She took care that all things were done in moderation. Even those being punished, weren’t punished all the time.
That this occurs during a lunar phase where at least some people worship Nemesis and do magic with her is no coincidence. We should also appeal to Némein and ask her to help heal old wounds. And along with lords Zeus and Kronos, end all conflict. Hopefully before the next year wrecks our shit. Now remember you need to becareful.
Because in addition to all this, natural phenomenon like a conjunction brings down good and evil in equal measure. A pregnant woman should not be out there. Or anyone who has a delicate health condition. That’s the way my Godmother in Santeria taught me. And even a healthy person or someone who isn’t pregnant shouldn’t be out under a conjunction or a special type of phenomenon for too long.
Because these events naturally thin the veil more than usual. And good and evil spirits can reach us across time and space. The only other time a person is that accessible to the spirit world is on their birthday. And women on their periods are naturally more open to spiritual energy (as taught to me by a Shaman from Peru). So these are things to consider.
You don’t actually have to go outside. If you have altars you can use one for sky Gods and another for Gods of the dead and do dual offerings. Ask the Gods of the dead to reap away the negative energy of the old year. And ask the Sky Gods to fill the void from the reaping with good luck and good energy. Ask to be blessed on the new year.
Remember, the Winter Solstice happens at midnight. And the power of the Sun Gods’ return can bless you.
If you must go outside, wear a warding charm. Do your prayers and protections etc.. and leave your offerings. Pray for what you want. Then return immediately. Don’t stay outside longer than you have to.
This conjunction will be up there at least for a while. Remember you can do this inside on your altars as well. So with that said, let me finish this post with some Live YouTube streams of the conjunction!
I sat up for about a half an hour to an hour looking for an image of a witch to put up on this damn post. And that was almost as daunting as the subject matter I am going to write about. When I typed in “witch”, there were pages upon pages of women dressed in ugly, long nosed, masks or with green paint on their skins. It seems that in the 21st century we still have an image to shake. And it sucks because I like the Wizard of Oz books.
It seems for any positive thing to appear on a practitioner of magic, I had to use other words. At first I was going to go with an image of a Medicine Man or Woman. But many fellow natives will be offended by the term witch as much as white people are. Yay! Colonialism! Yay Christian Brainwashing! I’m sorry. I guess the pisces moon started out with nice emotions last night.
And today I went back to being a Cuban asshole. I typed in the word Osainista instead. It basically means Osainist or follower of Osain, the Orisha of herbs and nature. He teaches his followers how to do magic with plants. Which includes healing medicines.
That’s where I found this image. I try not to be overbearing. This is a character flaw that I struggle with. I can come off as extremely egotistical. Maybe I am.
I try not to get into long winded debates any more because in the end people will believe what they want to believe. And I’ll be the annoying prick in the corner no one wants to drink with (okay, I don’t drink, but still). Every once in a while I come across something. Something that demands a moral position. Something that would make me feel like a coward if I don’t voice the issue.
So at the risk of alienating other people, I try to say what’s on my mind. As politely as possible. It doesn’t always work though. Such a thing happened earlier this morning. It was on Good Reads.
For those who don’t know, this is like a facebook for book readers, writers, and authors. You get to follow your favorite authors (sometimes even if they’re 100’s of years old). People also buy and sell books on there. This includes everything from text books to novels. A friend in New York introduced me to the site.
I was looking up a book I have wanted to read for two years now : Bless Me Ultima. It’s an amazing book about an elderly Mexican shaman woman named Ultima. She teaches a young boy as her apprentice and shows him some of her magic. I saw the movie, but I still want to read the book. As I have heard the book is even better.
Now the main conflict in the book, is that the Curandera (Spanish : Curer or Healer) is battling three evil sisters who are “witches”. In many cultures, the word witch is used for a satanist or at least a practitioner of black magic. That’s why English wizards and witches began calling themselves “Cunning Folk”. Instead of witch or wizard. It’s why Native Americans often view that word in a negative light. Associated instead with evil spirits and black magic.
And a person in a book review sort of echoed those same negative sentiments toward the term witch. So I went into a long winded post that I swore I would never make again. Explaining that No, we’re not all evil assholes that lure children into gingerbread houses.
I’m going to say something that will probably piss off a lot of people anyway. Curanderismo is in fact Witchcraft. Any magical practice is witchcraft. I wasn’t going to say anything, but too many people accept the Christian dogma that witchcraft is “evil”.
The fact is, many witches stopped calling themselves witches, because Christians label everything under the sun as “satanism”. Witchcraft is the science, philosophy, and art of working with energy. And most energy has positive and negative components. This doesn’t make one type of witchery good or the other evil. Witch translates as “wise” a person wise to the spiritual world.
Can you imagine someone stealing the word “curandero” and using it to define something that is evil or selfish? That would be crazy right? And yet witch, which is a term for a wise man or wise woman is used as a label for anyone that practices black magic. And this kind of demonization of our practices comes from the Burning Times. Who many witches believe never really went away.
Moreover, Curanderos can and do use negative magic if they believe it will benefit the people they are trying to protect. Because it depends on the context. To the other person being hexed for whatever evil thing they did, there is very little difference between a Curandero and any other type of enemy witch.
In Puerto Rico, a lot of Sanse Brujos won’t do return to sender rituals (like what Ultima is doing in the book) because they believe it will propagate an endless cycle of violence between witches. That’s why they have the saying
“Un brujo no puede comer otro brujo”.
(A witch can’t eat another witch).
Regardless of whether a return to sender is justified or not. I keep seeing people put down the old ways unintentionally or define things through a Christianized, European lens. I have seen some Curanderos speak of the term witch with such disgust as if that’s a Satanist or some other black magician. But it’s a dogma forced on our people’s across Latin America by Christian conquerors. By people who thought they were doing Indigenous and African peoples a “favor” by conquering them.
Remember that is where the root of this anti witch sentiment comes from : Colonialism. If someone speaks like that about witchcraft in my presence, I would definitely be offended. And no matter the context they were using. That’s why I use terms like “black witch” “enemy witch” or things in other cultures. To the English and Wiccans, a warlock is a black magic user.
In Haiti bokor is the term for an evil practitioner and so fourth. I write this with the hope that other people will read this and understand the history, and the context. Too many times, we see in movies, books, and shows these old tropes being used. About the good witch and the bad witch. And granted yes there are witches who only practice positive magic and others who specialize in negative magic.
But good and evil are points of view. For instance, I’m sure many of you reading this, associate using magic dolls and putting needles through them with evil right? What if I told you about Witch Doctors or Witch Masters. These are Christian Magicians from the Appalachian Mountains. They are basically magical witch hunters. They battle evil witches.
In Appalachian culture, witches and pagans are all “satanists”. So magic users in that culture who practice positive magic are called doctors. Christian witch doctors will make wooden dolls that they stab with needles to curse a witch. They do this to hurt them in order to prevent them from casting their evil spells on their victims. And how about all those white witches who are trendy and have lots of wealthy clients? Their clients ask for good luck and good energy.
Here’s the problem though, their clients are scum. Their clients are wealthy Jeff Bezos who use magic to get wealthier while their workers starve. Or worse, they could even be rapists and they need the extra mojo to stay out of jail. You see what I’m getting at here? The magic itself is not good or evil. How it’s used determines that.
A fellow blogger on here (Neptune’s Dolphin) once said we needed to break free from the Christian paradigm. That bad habit of defining everything in black and white. Just good or just evil. Now I do believe there is real good and real evil. I do believe in malevolent Gods and spirits.
I do believe in black witches. And yes, I do believe in certain magical practices that are entirely or mostly malevolent. But even these things can be salvaged. For instance, in Ancient Sumer, some demons were beneficial and useful. Like Pazuzu, who frightens away other demons.
He protected the ancient Sumerians from every type of evil spirit there was. The Obeah practice of stealing someone’s Sasa or shadow (for death magic), was used by one Obeah man in his book, to actually heal a person. The magic us used to suspend a person, for the practitioner to heal them and remove damage. Even things as view as negative, can have beneficial uses for people. And similarly, positive energies could be used in a negative way.
Such things have to be carefully defined. Using proper context and with the awareness that we need to be careful of the colonial mindset that these biases came from. Unfortunately, many witches like Curanderos, have fallen into that trap. They view witchcraft as evil and what they practice as “different”. As other.
To me this is being a self hating witch. This is trying to get acceptance from people who hate us. So what’s the point of being open about your magic or your mysticism then? You might as well just stay in the Broom Closet. It would be less hypocritical, and it wouldn’t turn our image back by a thousand years in the public eye. Who knows? Maybe some day, we can type in witch on a search engine and find a less ridiculous depiction than a green skinned lady.
For some weird reason I seem to be amped up. The Moon in Pisces has me chillin. It’s like I drank Moonshine. See what I did there? Anyways, I am dropping some astrological and astronomical links here for everyone.
So it’s official! I am getting named and wreathed on Saturday August the 8th at around 7:30pm.
So for those interested in attending let me know. But yes, Gods willing this will be done. And I can say good bye to my old life and hello to the new one. I will lay to rest the old year and begin a new on this (Hellenic) New Year, Ruled by Aphrodite and Herakles. I will finally be an initiated Greek Pagan.
I’ve always wanted to write about this subject. It’s something I have only ever shared with one or two people. One of them being my Shaman. But yesterday I had a fascinating discussion with a Folklorist from England. On twitter he shared with all of us an image of a gothic cemetery from the Isle of Wight.
This turned into an interesting discussion where I shared some of my knowledge with him. And that led to an even greater sharing of knowledge.
What are the Green Dead?
In almost every culture, it was believed when you died, you didn’t go to a Heaven or Hell. What you went to was an alternate version of Earth. An Earth were the formless spirits on the other side of the veil dwelled. Now this is an almost Universal belief shared by cultures, most of which hadn’t always had contact with each other. Let me give you some examples.
In the folk religion of Japan’s Ryukyuan islands (interesting religion, especially for women). The Ancestors in that religion, the really Ancient Ancestors do live with the Kami (Gods) in either Heaven, Earth, or the Ocean. They specifically live in the “Ancient Age”. Let me stop right there. This also something common to many religions.
There was once a mystical era where the human and spirit world were the same dimension. The same multiverse. And for some reason it split into the physical multiverse and the spiritual multiverse. It’s believed humans back then were as divine as the Angels. Even Christians refer to this era as the Edenic Era.
They believe that Adam and Eve were immortal once. Similarly, the Aboriginal Nations in Australia speak of the Dreamtime, the era when the human and spirit worlds were one. But this era is so far away from our time that it’s become it’s own dimension. In Alaska that time is called the Taimmani by the Inuit people. It’s an interesting concept, but basically it isn’t just a time or era.
It’s a part of the human and spiritual world at the same time. A type of dimensional bridge or realm. Who knows what it is. But it is believed it’s a place so deep in both worlds that very few magic users ever reach it. I just wanted to take a small break to address that.
It’s fascinating that this period of time is talked about at length in many religions. Even if not specifically named. Some may even refer to it as mythic time. A time even more prehistoric than the dinosaur period (if it could be proven). Ancestors who aren’t primordial, but are still ancient live in the “Middle Age”.
All other relatives live in the “Present Age,” the Ages as you can see are also considered dimensions. Time and space is odd both here and on the other side. But basically, with the exception of the Primordial Ancestors, most ancestors and other relatives live on Earth and in nature. Present Age ancestors actually even live as house spirits for their relatives. House Spirits are normally nature entities.
But in many cultures, the dead co-habitat with the living as protectors. Or as spirits of the hearth and home. Such as (some) of the Lares of the Household in Roman religion. We see other examples. In African religions from the traditional Yoruba and Vodoun Faiths, the dead are a part of nature.
When I mentioned in my post “preparing for death” the Itutu Ceremony, I had mentioned that initiated Santeros or Yoruba practitioners always opt to be buried. Never cremated, because the body is food to nourish the Earth. Even in death, Nature plays a part. Even in Native American cultures, the dead were connected to nature. In fact in many faiths on Turtle Island, there is sometimes very little distinction between a non human entity and one who is human.
The Aztecs for example, believed dead warriors reincarnated as Hummingbirds. So the connection between nature and the dead is there. In fact, it was the prevalent world view for centuries. Only with the coming of Christianity did we see a spirit world that was mostly dark and gloomy. With everything being a fiery dark Hell or a fiery dark Purgatory.
And only in some occasions did we see a Heaven for ‘good’ souls. The Yoruba of Nigeria believe that the realm of humans is Earth. And that it is natural for our souls to be here and to want to reincarnate here. So it makes sense that the Dead are at least in some way connected to nature. Even in monotheistic religions, Adam and Eve were made from the dirt of the Earth.
In a sense we are all related to the fae. So perhaps our souls go back to it’s original form prior to whatever made us mortal in the first place. But then why are so many ghosts messed up then? Why do some go to a Hell and others to a Purgatory? And yet more to a Heaven?
I do have some theories, but nothing conclusive. But anyways I have introduced you to the general concept of the Green Dead. Or at least my personal concept of them. So now I am going to tell all of you a story. A story about a haunted house in the woods of a Southern State.
The Green House
I think it was an investigation that took place in Georgia or Alabama. But the truth is, it’s been so long that I no longer remember. This isn’t a creepy story at all. It’s a beautiful one. It’s what started my interest in studying the Green Dead. Once, I was part of a paranormal organization.
An alliance or coalition of various groups, known as the NPS. We used to have this facebook group. I have no idea if it’s still up. And different groups would share posts of evidence on there. They would post images of locations and information on them.
Well, this one group, decided to investigate a series of abandoned homes out in the sticks somewhere. Places overrun by nature in some cases. And there was this old house in the woods somewhere. And it had a green fungus in some parts. But there was something else about it.
Even in images, it exuded a powerful spiritual aura. It felt……Green. That’s the only way I can explain it. The energy was alive with earthly power. The power it radiated was alive and warm. There were dead people yes.
But goddamn, that power felt more alive than anything I ever felt before in my life. As a necromancer I am used to the dead. I feel their energy like nobody’s business. It’s usually cool or cold or damp. But I’m telling you that ghosts had never felt so alive before.
They seemed to be ghosts who radiated nature energy. And they had powers over nature too. I could feel that they had gifts, things that aid them to rule or control nature. There were other beings there too. Faeries and other Earth based entities.
But they seemed to be a mishmash of various groups living in concert with one another. And yes I use that word un-ironically : they Lived with one another. Now, because of this, different mediums and psychics had various opinions of what types of entities were living there. And the investigators themselves had said the presences they felt and experienced seemed off. And they asked a bunch of us psychically gifted people to look into the evidence they found.
I hadn’t expected to find too much more than had already been explained by others. Still, they decided to sequester us in various individual chats. They asked us to not talk to one another to keep it professional. And not to share our opinions on the forum. To try and stamp out cross contamination.
We all agreed on the terms. I don’t know how many were actually called on to do the remote viewing sessions or divinations. I have no idea the specifics of what the others said. I will only speak of what I saw myself. I saw that many spirits had inhabited that place.
Among them were ghosts, and various species of fae. They were all living in what appeared to be a commune made up of the spirits. It seemed that since the property was so long abandoned, entities of the land took over the house. And they shared it amongst each other. It was truly a beautiful sight to behold.
After telling them what I saw and felt, they had told me it made sense. Apparently half of the sensitives had said these were ghosts and the other half said they were fae. As far as I know I’m the only one who said both. But for the very first time (but certainly not the last) my concept of the spiritual world changed and was challenged. And from then on, I began to learn all that I could about the Green Dead.
And whether or not this had been explored before in ancient cultures. Later as I learned from such Folklorists as this man on twitter, it turns out that yes. The ancients have talked about this. That for instance the Celtic word Sidhe (pronounced “she”) a word for both faeries and the hills they often inhabit, is used in reference to the dead. Banshee for example, are women who died in child birth.
They arise from their graves to warn others of death. The word shee here is the same as the word Sidhe. In cases such as this, the dead are identified with a type of faerie or spirit of nature. Maybe another time I will revisit this. But for now, I think I shared more than enough of my theories and the folklore and experiences that shape them.
For you to get why I believe in and experience this type of dead. But remember, will-O’-the-wisps are supposedly a type of Faerie in the form of a ball of light. They’re called Ghost Lights. Maybe it’s for a reason.
Malocchio is Italian for “evil eye”. In Spanish we say “Mal de ojo” which is the same thing. An evil inflicted from a dark gaze. A gaze full of hate directed at someone usually due to jealousy. Now, this has nothing to do with an evil eye, or actually let me take it back.
It does, just not in the traditional way. Another family member has fallen dead. This time my cousin. Her daughter called me in the late hours of the morning to tell me her heart had apparently stopped due to a medication she took. When she and her stepfather found her, she was already purple in the face. After this, I decided enough was enough.
I have written to several of my masters, from my Hellenic Priest, to my Godmother in Santeria, to a Native American Shaman who helped train me. I am also going to consult a Babalawo from Nigeria. Something isn’t right here. Initially, my teachers had all said that I was looking for meaning in what appears as senseless deaths. But all of them are now checking in to see what’s happening.
Another sad reminder that whenever I allow myself to doubt my own instincts, I am always sadly proven right or partially right in the end. I knew something was off when my grandma died. But I didn’t let myself hear my internal voice. And before my cousin died, I saw strange visions.
A week before my cousin died, I saw visions of a statue of the Virgin of Guadalupe. Her image was in the skies, floating in a storm cloud. I saw this for a whole week but I just didn’t feel like going out to divine again. And find out what the hell was happening again. I just didn’t want to.
I’m a necromancer. I work with the dead all of the time. I know and accept that this is a gift. And I do cherish it because it has helped me prepare myself, my loved ones, and others for hard times. In a sense making it easier.
But what I wouldn’t do for the power to stop something from happening for once. So now, to the point, what does all of this have to do with the title? Well I decided to soothsay for myself. And what I got was that the ring of fire new moon was more than just a cthonic time. It was more than that. I was told about ancient times.
How the ancient cultures spoke of evil spirits coming in through new moons and especially eclipses. An eclipse is a sort of astrological death. What happened is a convergence of energy. The new moon combined with the eclipse. It was a very bad sign.
I knew this since I saw all the things that align together in my last post. But this was far worse than I knew. Since I was warned by St. Mary, I did a Spiritualist Mass and called on her and her Angels to speak. I was told to do a Mystical Christian cleansing. A white Christian and Curandero cleansing to remove the energy of death from myself and my family.
It feels as if all the nasties from the other side are coming out. Spirits who bring death and harm. I am going to do further research into the old taboos and what was considered a bad sign by the ancients. I’ll record it both here and in my books and notes. Here’s to hoping I might avoid problems for once.
I am hoping that in the future, if I add a deeper study of these bad signs and omens. Of these things we take for granted as the ramblings of “superstitious and primitive minds,”, of these “wives tales” as they are derogatorily called (because it implies women were not wise). If I can add this to my list of specialities maybe I can save people from harm and pain in the future.
In the meantime, I wrote all of this because all of you should be casting Oracles and protecting and warding yourselves as well. I get the feeling a lot more people will be experiencing untimely deaths soon. And do cleansings as well. And most importantly : when you get a bad feeling, don’t ignore it like I did. Follow your instincts.
Cuban Bablawos do the “Letter of the Year” on the modern new year. But the traditional Yoruba new year happens from June the previous year to June the next year. And like the Cuban Letter of the Year, the IFA of the Year is divination done by the Priests of Orula. The great Orisha (Deity) of divination and magic. The creator of the occult science of IFA.
The way in which we not only understand destiny, but also change it for our own benefit. The following is what the divination for this new year says.
The above is a typical depiction of a British Cunning Man. A person who is Cunning or Wise (witch) to the world of the spirits. Many cultures have their own versions of what a witch is. So I am going to make a series every once in a while for people who want to learn. I am posting Simon Roper’s video on Anglo-Saxon Witchery.
What it meant to be a witch in England among the Anglo-Saxon peoples. What they actually did versus Church propaganda. And the important role they had in their communities. You’ll find a common thread amongst all witches. So without further adieu, Simon.
