Today is a combination of both the New Moon and the Solar Eclipse. And it happens on a Saturday. New Moons are already associated with the dead in the Hindu faith. Solar Eclipses are symbolic of the dying and eventual rebirth of the Sun. And Saturday is the day to honor the dead.
